sat evening i was watching women's weightlifting and wow, there is this thing about athletes in them - the never say DIE spirit - the focused mind - the tunnel vision. they really PUSH themselves! how many times we PUSH ourselves to achieve something, so hard? i really admire the silver medalist Olha Korobka, of Ukraine. this is the first time i saw an athlete push herself so hard. despite she only got silver, but i think she's amazing. that night i even dreamt abt her! its a stupid dream... dreamt that she was quite upset that she only got a SILVER, and she went clubbing and got drunk. haha! in my dream she got so drunk that she couldn't walk, and she was left on the ground - no one was able to help her up (due to her size). oh my! haha!

wat a silly dream!

i tot of another one...

being loved VS sorrowful

these 2 chinese words, when said in different intonations, sounds totally different!

Tuesday, August 12, 2008

overheard my colleague talking (loudly but not interrupting) on an overseas phone call in mandarin.

i just realised the Chinese word "application form" and "male cousin who is older" sounds very similar.

since now china is hot topic for Olympics, we must brush up our mandarin intonation!
tot of one more... "how are you" VS "you are a good horse". of cos there are dozens more. that's chinese to you.

Happy Birthday Singapore!

What a wonderful parade complete with fireworks! Once again i must say, i am really proud to be a Singaporean. Having travelled so much when i was younger as well as having so many friends from abroad, i really appreciate our nation's growth and safety.

We celebrated National Day with a mini party and i hope Angie posts the photos soon! Wonder if she took photos of the red and white agar-agar, made specially to commemorate this day!

this is the most ridiculous thing i've ever seen on the internet.

apparently there is this "hate Wal-Mart" website and since Wal-Mart has just redesigned their logo, this "hate Wal-Mart" website decided to hold their own "contest" as well!

i am not the biggest fan of China, but this is definitely DEROGATORY!!! really done in bad taste!

i think they are just so overwhelmed by their hatred for Wal-Mart that they dunno that its illegal to use another country's flag like this.

this cake... hahaha... this cake made me shout "i am only 24 leh! why so many candles!".... then i realised that i am 25 liao!!! oh my!!!

a mini tiramisu just for me! very creamy, very nice!

super luscious ice-cream cake from my colleagues. they wanted me to do a "blow job" and used a very R(A) shaped candle. oh my! :p

shake shake ice-cream

last night after the "candle-light" home-cooked dinner at kel+jen's house, kel said that something is missing despite the nice food. we realised he is talking abt dessert! i wonder what went on in our minds at the same time, we all thought of making home-made ice-cream, but using the method taught on TV!

jen opened the fridge and we decided to use soya milk instead of plain HL milk cos sweeter and more taste!

here's the preparation process:

this is jen filling half of the bottle with ice first. and lots of salt to lower the temperature of ice. we listened during physics class!

lots of salt - and i was preparing the vitasoy in a zip lock bag.

kel trying to help out - to start shaking the ice!

yeah! shake like there is no tomorrow!!! i helped a bit to shake later on cos kel says my flabby arms need to be worked on. grrr...

jen knocked her head into the cupboard door and kel used the ice in the bottle as an ice-pack. how immediate is the help! haha!

THE END PRODUCT!

*proud of ourselves*
(somemore this tau-huay comes in sweet and salty ;) hahaha!)

after dessert we played Grand Theft Auto 4 on X-box. it was damm hilarious when we try to dictate the person playing - as this is a only one player game. there was this part where the player had to get into Roman's car and we were screaming "快点上车!快点上车!" to jen who was holding the controller. i think we were all very new to this game and not familiar with the control buttons. so instead of going INTO the car, jen jumped UP ONTO the car! haha... becos "上车" also means to go up onto the car!

then of cos there are other parts that made me laugh till my stomach hurt and speechless like when kel tried to hit the passerbys; tried to snatch someone's car but got chased in the end; tried to run in zig-zag motion so that the police can't shoot him. oh my! running zig-zag works in real life. but does it work in a programmed game? hahahaha!

its really nice to play a game and then realise you have so many chances at it. you screw up your car, u take a taxi. you ran out of HP, you go to a hospital. you miss the mission, you restart. but in life we only have one shot at it; so i am glad at this one chance i met kel and jen as my friends.

food phobia :S

i think i have a phobia of... FOOD!

this past week from the end of June to the first week of July i have been dining out... eating... dining out... eating... all sorts of cuisine (esp local food) and indulging myself in RICH foods due to company events.

it all started at this restaurant in the beautiful Keppel Bay Marina, called Prive. (http://www.prive.com.sg/) the gastrobar had a very nice and posh view, and when we were there, there was this event where they were christening a yacht! wow, talk abt being "atas". i had quite a great dinner inside the restaurant; had a black truffle in its piece for the first time! actually its sliced, but its good enough. i think i only had it once or twice but in "sauce" form. wow, i was really happy until one of the bosses beside me told me that he has those grown in the back garden of his house in southern france. haha! i felt really "sua-koo" for exclaiming my delight.

then the whole week there were heavy lunches and dinners... until on friday i decided i can't take it anymore! looking at food now makes me wanna *puke*!

the weekend i decided to take "light" food, but seems like its hard too. sat lunch was shared with Kel and Jenny and of cos Adrian at Novena's Waraku Pasta. talk abt wanting to eat "light". i ordered a oyster + bacon pasta. oh my, i was soooo ge-lat that i couldnt finish the oysters. gd thing Kel helped out as Adrian is afraid of the "海洋的味道" - a term he used to refer to the smell/taste of oysters in a nice way. haha! then after running errands for his family and after massage with his mum at Kenko (and after adrian's short nap) we went to eat Tony Roma's again! but this time with his mum and little sis cos his mum is first time trying it! as usual i can't resist dessert and ordered the skillet cookie with ice-cream. OH NO, so sinful right?!?!?! the day ends it all with a fresh jambu (that red rose apple fruit) i took from adrian's mum's fridge...

on sunday after adrian's badminton we went to eat kway chap and fried carrot cake at this hawker center near his house that was recently refurbished. wah sey, the food is really not bad and very very cheap!!! nowadays still can find a big plate of white carrot cake at $3! it helps cos i work in orchard area and the lunches here are approx $15 per day. next time we should bring the boss who loves local food to this balestier food court instead of newton circus! last thurs night we went to newton circus and was charged $70 for 5 giant prawns with heaps of garlic. that's really kinda expensive considering the venue.

so we tot that we might have a more balanced diet and decided to go to the shop across the street for liang-teh and gui ling gao. guess who we saw! the plastic surgeon!

hee hee... secretly took this photo. apparently this shop is a fav hangout for many celebrities.

then... the highlight of the day is... MELLBEN CRAB! Mellben is not a mis-spelt word of Melbourne, ok? its the name of the shop. Both of us woke up at abt 8pm from afternoon/evening nap, watched "Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations" and then drove down to AMK for...CRAB!!!

very yummy, too bad Kel is having sore throat. next time perhaps!

soup and beehoon crab (the soup is divine)

adrian's favourite butter crab

this is how a $100 dinner looks like at a coffee shop! very satisfying!!!

ok, this new week means salads for me every meal! haha!

Monday, June 23, 2008

i spent the whole evening at adrian's house yesterday from about 5pm to 10pm and i did nothing but eat, eat and eat. just happened that this weekend his 姑姑 is around and her "service" standard is really gd; she was offering me loads of food and things to drink all the time. so basically from 5pm to 10pm i was eating non-stop. defeats my dieting plans really. i think my tummy is back. :S

so at abt 10pm i got to see adrian finally - we went to the airport to pick him up. it was really funny, he didnt sound like himself due to a sore throat and he didnt look like himself as his face was quite tanned.

so we went back and he was showing me some photos taken in different parts of china.

me: wah, this photo is so nice. such a nice country, it looks foggy always.
adrian: that's the pollution!!!

after his bath his face became less tanned. now i know! its the dust from china!

before he went, he told me that he has a feeling that he will lose something. then when he is back, we realised he lost his voice. haha! even his sister says he sounds "sexy" now. blah... :p

today must be the happiest day of many girls in my Level 3 office.

the hum-sup temp staff that has been bothering many many girls in the office is finally GONE!!! (i mean today is his last day). he has been using weird tactics such as face-booking/calling/jio-ing out to go chiong-ing... etc etc... just to try to get close to the sales staff... the receptionists... his own dept colleagues... and even after they've dropped obvious hints to him, he is still trying! still trying to stick to people... and the worst is, he asked one colleague to write a reference letter. my colleague asked me "how to write JEE-HONG in english huh? i want to put it here (in the letter)". wahahahahahaha... no matter how many times his dept colleagues shun him... he still dun get it!

this shows that some people just dont get the HINT! he is due to go complete his degree in a public Uni and someone was just saying he will surely be those typical 'out-cast' in the class. well i guess everywhere has one, right? i rem during my poly days there was this gal too. no one was keen to do projects with her until a point of time where our lecturers had to FORCE us to work with her. haha! i wonder how these people survive in the working world... oh my...

Monday, June 16, 2008

talk abt globalisation. i switched on the tv for a while yesterday and saw...

- 2 taiwanese singers (5566 - very cute guys)
- singing "Welcome to B-E-I-J-I-N-G"
- in a local variety show (U are the one competition)

hmmm... not very appropriate right? or are they using "entertainment" to pull countries closer in another manner?

this must be the "season" of break-ups. i dunno why, some people around me are facing more and more relationship problems...

i guess what i can share is, a relationship is bound to have issues. so that's why 2 people work hard towards converging to agree on these issues. be it in the movies... on TV... in real life... the person on the MRT beside you... everyone surely will meet some hiccups in their love lives. just like for me and my bf, the issue that has been haunting us for the past 1.5 yrs is his lack of time, and after so long, we are still trying to find a good balance - there are pros and cons and i am starting to appreciate the pros which is we still find so much joy in meeting each other after being together for some time now already...

what i want to tell my friends who might be facing sadness and pain in their relationship is... its really up to U and your partner to work things out. if u dont work hard and give in and put down your pride to say "sorry", then its just not fated for both of you to be together. then u work harder in your next relationship. by the way i am not referring to those heartaches where the bf cheat on the gf those kind of "issues". i am just talking abt couples who LOVE each other and yet they are not able to converge. some people just take the easy way out and regret afterwards. i guess the main thing is that whatever choice you make, you dont regret it 10 years down the road.

last night met up with Prof Lau and Lily at Great World.

they were going to Phuture and as i am "out-of-the-scene" for some time, i actually asked Prof Lau "Where is Phuture huh?". wahahaha... he tot i was damm silly.

took this nice photo. he drank Asahi becos he is writing it as a case in his new book. All the best to the new book!

(i think not only my camera PHONE is gd, my photography skills also "buay-pai" leh, hee hee hee)

the whole night we had really funny conversations. very random but i really laugh until peng. according to Lily, she told me she has a friend who waters her beautiful flowering plants with.... VIAGRA! i was like WHAT THE ?!?!?!... she said "yah... that's why my friend said. this is so that the plants can stand erect all the time!"

i tot that was hiliarious. or rather. crazy. hahaha... its really up to u to believe it, but i dont. Worse is, she quoted her friend saying "according to a reliable source, even our national park authority also order in bulk from Pfizer! or else how u get such pretty bougainvilleas!" that really left me speechless... :S

i look forward to meeting them soon. but i am sure the next time i meet them the music will be so pumping loud that i can't hear her funny stories.

did some spring cleaning of my cubicle. and now the desk looks so neat! there is so much space... woo... i am happy! yeah!

found an old CD with many old photos.

haha, guess wat i found here:

a photo with His Excellency, the President - taken from an event in my previous company.

i think i still look the same after so many years. ahem ahem!
i think my diet plan has finally paid off!
this decision came after i watched "Super sized me" on arts central one weekend night. scary. i mean, i read the book "Fast Food nation" some time ago and the thought of fastfood only haunted me for a while.

but this time i am DETERMINED!

2 weeks of minimal dinner and now i have a flat tummy! woohoo, i am really happy. at least i dun feel so bloated when wearing my pants and skirts. its tough, the past 2 yrs in this company i have gained 4 kg! what the _____ right!?!?!?!??! i rem when i first joined, i was at 44/45kg. now, my average is 48kg! sob sob... ok i think i have shed abt 2kg and i weigh 46kg. i just hope i am able to maintain this. this year alot of events, most looking forward to kel's wedding. i must slim down to fit into that beautiful bridesmaid dress that wifey bought for us! (the dress is amazing, it looks just like her gown, white with a pink ribbon, but knee length)

so this morning i tried something healthy. my honey stars breakfast.

(my metal cup; very retro - cos the cleaning auntie always accidentally breaks our cups)

adrian is also trying to eat/stay healthy nowadays, taking this pine tree bark antioxidant. apparently he heard from his dad that this is the best antioxidant and so he takes it daily, in order to have a balanced diet = unhealthy lunches of fatty roast duck... roast chicken with skin... + healthy supplements.

Monday, June 9, 2008

i have a new MID-YEAR resolution. sigh. its not a gd thing. i vow not to buy anymore branded stuff. this came about becos (its a long story) basically we went to a wedding lunch and the groom is adrian's best best best friend. u know lah. u go wedding... then come home, talk abt ur own plans for wedding. adrian says i must start saving $$$ liao or else we can never get married within the next 2 years. SOB SOB... so i must promise myself (and him) that i will not go on my usual splurges... cannot see-and-buy... must see-wait-think-decide-and-dont-buy.

after moving to bestie and wifey's house end of june, i can techically save $500 a month on rental... BUT! BUT! BUT! i had plans to use this money on my next degree. so i guess my poor bf must save MORE on top of what he promise. haha! or else... dont get married so soon lor! aiyoh! wat's the hurry right? aiyoh... money money money... why the whole world having money headache...

ok must go and buy Toto tonight liao. then i can really go shopping with wifey Jenny. wah, she is the best shopping partner. too bad i discovered it only now. last thurs we met up to go Taka...Paragon etc and really had a good time! we are really similar in shopping patterns and taste. its amazing! and the best part is we always think of our other half when we go shopping. hee hee... ok ok wake up wake up. cannot keep thinking about shopping!

took the MRT to work this morning. wah lau eh, met this super irritating guy on the train.

i was standing behind him and he refused to hold on to any handle or pole, and kept pushing/bumping into the people near him in a staggering manner and the three people near him was just so disgusted that we kept "diao-ing" him. it didnt work.

initially i was standing behind him, and there was a lady to his left and another guy in front of him:

one guy
|
a lady -- the irritating guy
|
me

he kept intruding into our personal space while one hand was holding onto a jacket and the other hand he was holding his mobile phone to his ear.

i was like ?!?!??!?!? TMD, do u need me to teach u how to stand properly?! really inconsiderate.

then i moved to his right where there was more space:

one guy
|
a lady -- the irritating guy -- me

and guess what. i could hear his phone conversation (one way, of cos). i really hoped i didnt cos i was DAMMMMMM GROOOOOOSSED out ok!

he: "ok... i love u..."
(pause)
he: "ok.... see u soon...."
in a SUPER DUPER SWEET VOICE.

*faint*
